Saving my own life. . .

Sometimes the universe reaches out and whacks you on the side of the head to wake you up and get you moving.  That’s what happened to me recently and I need to pay attention to what I learned as I awoke.
I was watching Oprah’s new interview format, her guest was Sarah Ban Breathnach, author of the books, Simple Abundance: A Day Book of Comfort and Joy and Peace and Plenty: Finding Your Path to Financial Serenity. Sarah confirmed that both of these books were written during her own times of crisis and designed specifically to save her own life.  Have you saved your own life lately?  I thought I had, but here I am again, needing to, as the airline adage goes, “put the mask over your own nose and face before assisting others!”
The whack that woke me went something like this, my own life is fraying at the edges, who do I think I am to think I am to be of service to others?  And just as quickly, the answer presented itself: Whatever you lack, first give to another, for you can only give what you truly have, and by giving you will see the abundance around you! So, dear reader, whomever you may be, I present myself, frayed edges and all offering to give you precisely what I need, what I lack, what I want most, so that I can find it again, and in abundance!
What do I need (to save my life)?
·         Friendship – that welcoming feeling that comes from another who offers companionship, understanding, support and rapport.
·         Money – not a lot, but a bit more than I’m earning just now.
·         Order – that state of affairs in which everything is “in its place” and clutter free; life is visually and emotionally tidy.
And how can I give these three to others, especially when they seem to be missing from my own life?  That will be my task for the week.  I will be looking for opportunities to bring friendship, financial assistance and freedom from clutter to those around me.  I will do this not because I believe I am in a place of confidence about my own state of affairs but simply because I trust the process.
In my own life I have always called this the Manna Principle – named for the bread-like food that simply appeared each morning to feed the wandering Israelites in ancient times, the nutritious gift had an interesting property, if you hoarded it, it spoiled.  But, if you shared it, much like the loaves and fishes of the New Testament, it multiplied.  So there it is, I do have gifts in the realm of friendship, money management and creating order.  I am hoping the same universe that dealt me the wake-up blow will put in my path clear opportunities to give from what I have (but still seem to think I need) so that I can “wake up” to the abundance that my spirit is having difficulty seeing all around me.
Stay tuned, because the journey of gifting will surely unfold!
